About Dr. Evita Fernandez

Dr. Evita Fernandez took charge of Fernandez Hospital from her parents in1985 and expanded it from a 40-bed unit to three hospitals with 320 beds, twooutpatient clinics, and a School of Nursing. She transformed the institution intonot-for-profit under the Fernandez Foundation in 2018, emphasizingethical and equitable healthcare. A passionate advocate of normal birthingand midwifery, she introduced midwifery to private hospitals in India andestablished the Professional Midwifery Education and Training (PMET)Program in 2011. In collaboration with the Government of Telangana andUNICEF, she launched a certification program in midwifery for nurses, alignedwith global standards. Dr. Fernandez has contributed extensively to maternalcare research, medical education, and advocacy, and is a recognizedspeaker and author. She holds an MBBS from St. John’s Medical College, aDGO from Osmania University, and is a Fellow of the Royal College ofObstetricians and Gynaecologists, London. She serves as Chairpersonand Managing Director of Fernandez Foundation and Managing Trustee ofits associated charitable trusts.
