About Mr. Peter Pronovost

Dr. Peter J. Pronovost is the Chief Quality & Clinical Transformation Officer at University Hospitals, where he also holds the Veale Distinguished Chair in Leadership and Clinical Transformation. A world-renowned patient-safety champion, critical-care physician, and prolific researcher, he has published over 1,000 peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Pronovost is best known for pioneering the use of medical checklists to dramatically reduce central-line associated bloodstream infections — a breakthrough that has saved countless lives and earned him recognition as one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people, along with a MacArthur “genius grant.”

At University Hospitals, he leads large-scale transformation initiatives aimed at eliminating “defects in value,” improving quality of care, and building sustainable population-health models.  He is also founding President of the UH Veale Healthcare Transformation Institute, which advances innovation in care delivery, digital health, and system-level learning.
