President, PRASHO Foundation (Pragyaan Sustainable Health Outcomes)
Dr. GVS Murthy is a globally recognized expert in public health and eye care and currently serves as the President of PRASHO Foundation. He is also a Professor of Public Health Eye Care & Disability at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), through its eye-health arm.
He completed his MBBS in 1979 from Guntur Medical College and his residency in 1985 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He later earned an MSc in Community Ophthalmology from the Institute of Ophthalmology, University of London in 1996.
Dr. Murthy established India’s first public-sector Department of Community Ophthalmology at the Rpc-Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, where he led the department until 2010. Over his distinguished career, he has contributed extensively to research, authoring hundreds of peer-reviewed publications across eye health, disability, public health, and community care.
In founding PRASHO in 2023, Dr. Murthy and his colleagues set out to create a not-for-profit platform dedicated to promoting evidence-based, inclusive, and sustainable health outcomes — with a special focus on people with disabilities and underserved populations.
