Dr. LeimapokpamSwasticharan is a distinguished healthcare leader and public health expert, currently serving as the Additional Deputy Director General (Addl. DDG) and Director of the Patient Safety Secretariat at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW), Government of India. With a career spanning over two decades, Dr. Swasticharan has been instrumental in driving initiatives aimed at improving patient safety, public health outcomes, and healthcare delivery systems across India.
Dr. Swasticharan has also been at the forefront of addressing rare diseases in India. He has been actively involved in the establishment of a Technical Expert Group for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), aimed at providing guidance to centers of excellence for rare diseases across the country. His efforts have contributed to increasing the budgetary allocation for rare disease treatment from Rs 35 crore in 2022-23 to Rs 82.4 crore in 2024-25, ensuring better access to treatment for patients
