About Dr. Usharani Pingali

Dr. Usharani Pingali is a distinguished clinical pharmacologist and academician with over three decades of experience in medical education, clinicalresearch, and pharmacovigilance. She is currently a Senior Professor and Former Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Nizam’s Instituteof Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad.​

Dr. Pingali holds an MD in Pharmacology, DNB in Clinical Pharmacology, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Bioethics, along with fellowships from leadingprofessional bodies. She has served as a guide to MD, DM, and PhD scholars and has played a pivotal role in developing non-invasive pharmacodynamicevaluation models under the ICMR Advanced Centre for Pharmacodynamics.​

A prolific researcher, she has published over 130 research papers in national and international journals and has contributed 36 chapters to researchtextbooks. She is also the Co-Editor of the textbook “A Practical Guide to Human Research and Clinical Trials”. Her work extends significantly into thescientific evaluation of phytopharmaceuticals, antimicrobial policy development, and ethical governance in clinical research.​

Dr. Pingali has received numerous prestigious awards, including the ISCR Lifetime Achievement Award – Academia (2025), Prof. B. N. Das Oration Award(2024), ISCR President’s Award (2020), and multiple national medals recognizing excellence in clinical pharmacology and diabetes research. She has alsobeen honoured by the Telangana State Health Minister for her contributions to healthcare and ethics.​
