With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Lt Col Suma K S has made significant contributions to Nursing leadership, clinical practice, education, and research. From 2017 to 2022, she served as the Chief Manager of Nursing Services at Manipal Hospital, Yeshwanthpur, following her tenure as the Chief of Nursing at Sagar Hospital, Bangalore (2015-2017). Prior to these leadership roles, she dedicated 21 years to the Military Nursing Service, holding various clinical and teaching positions. Additionally, she served as the Principal of the College of Nursing, AWES Jalandhar, on deputation from the Army.
Her academic journey reflects her commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. She has obtained a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery from the School of Nursing, INHS Sanjivani, Kochi (1987-1991), followed by a Post Certificate BSc in Nursing from the College of Nursing, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune (1994-1996). Further advancing her expertise, she completed an MSc in Nursing at Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore (1999-2001), a Master’s in Psychotherapy & Counselling from the Institute of Psychotherapy and Management Studies, Mumbai (2006-2008), and a Master’s in Clinical Research and Regulatory Affairs from Sikkim Manipal University (2009-2011). She also pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Quality Management in Healthcare from Symbiosis University, Pune (2016-2017) and an Executive MBA in Healthcare Management from Apollo Medvarsity (2016-2017).
Recognized for excellence in the field, she was awarded the Best Outgoing PC BSc Trainee Officer from the College of Nursing, Armed Forces Medical College in 1996 and received the Award of Excellence from Columbia Asia Hospital in 2019. Her commitment to advancing patient care is evident through research contributions, including a study on the effect of Reiki therapy in reducing cancer pain and an investigation into the effectiveness of a communication board in enhancing patient satisfaction among patients using mechanical devices. Additionally, she presented a study on Closed Loop Medication at IPSC 2018 in Hyderabad.
