Lt. General Bipin Puri, a distinguished paediatric surgeon and healthcare leader, served as the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) from November 1, 2017. An alumnus of AFMC Pune, he was commissioned into the Indian Army (AMC) in 1979 and specialized in General Surgery and Paediatric Surgery, with further training in the UK. He pioneered the NUSS Procedure for Pectus Excavatum in India and was honored with the Ethicon Travelling Fellowship and Double Helical’s National Health Award.
He has held key leadership roles, including Director General Medical Services (Army & Navy) and Commandant of major military hospitals. Recognized for his exemplary service, he received multiple commendations, including the Vishisht Seva Medal and the President’s Honorary Surgeon title.
