Prof. (Dr.) Atul Goel serves as the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Director of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in India. Under his leadership, the NCDC has been pivotal in managing public health challenges, including the elimination of diseases such as smallpox, guinea worm, lymphatic filariasis, and yaws.
Dr. Goel's tenure has seen the NCDC recognized as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Rabies Epidemiology and a Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio in Southeast Asia. The center also serves as a National Reference Laboratory for HIV/AIDS and is involved in various national programs, including the National One Health Programfor Prevention and Control of Zoonoses, the National Programme on Climate Change & Human Health, and the National Program for AMR Containment. These initiatives underscore his commitment to strengthening India's public health infrastructure and response capabilities.
