Prof. Anupam Sibal joined Apollo Hospital, New Delhi as a Senior Consultant Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist in 1997. He established a pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, nutrition and endoscopy service at the Apollo Centre for Advanced Pediatric's, the wing dedicated to pediatrics at the Apollo Hospital Delhi in 1997. He helped set up the first successful liver transplant program in India in 1998. In 2012, 1200 solid organ transplants in children and adults (840 kidney and 360 liver) were performed. The Apollo Transplant Program thus became the first transplant program in the world to perform more than 1000 transplants in a year and Apollo Delhi the busiest transplant centre in the world by performing 813 transplants (269 liver, 544 kidney). In 2013, Apollo Delhi performed (283 liver, 669 kidney) and the Apollo transplant program performed (388 liver, 1053 kidney). Overall more than 1674 liver transplants have been performed till date.
In June 2005, he helped achieve the First International Accreditation of a hospital in India by Joint Commission International (JCI). Prof. Sibal served as the only Asian JCI Physician Surveyor from January 2008 to 2010. He currently is a member of the Regional Middle East International Advisory Board of JCI.
Prof. Sibal was appointed as the Group Medical Director of the Apollo Hospitals Group in 2005. Prof. Sibal was appointed as an Adjunct Professor of Paediatrics, School of Medicine, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia in June 2009. In October 2009, he was appointed as the member of the Institute Body of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, (PGIMER) Chandigarh.
Prof Sibal is on the Editorial Board of 3 Journals and has 85 publications. He has served on the Executive Council of the International Paediatric Transplant Association, The Asian Pan-Pacific Association of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and the Commonwealth Association of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition and has lectured extensively in India and abroad.
